The Paul Robeson Theater (PRT) serves as a forum for artists and community to create, develop and preserve artistic and cultural expressions. It is located at 40 Greene Avenue in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. The theater provides low fee rental space for all residents of the community and other low-income community groups and organizations. It is used to host events, casting calls, rehearsal space for small theaters and dance companies, concerts, political campaign headquarters, and various other activities. Currently, the theater is operating solely from the lower level. The structure is in need of repair.
It is our goal to re-open the main stage completely renovated in the spring of 2011.

The expenses for all the efforts of the theater have been paid either out of pocket or by funds generated by
the low fees charged. We have fought to keep fees low so that it is affordable to those in the community
who may not be able to afford the arts otherwise. However, the last few years, like several non-profits
and community based organizations, PRT faces increasing challenges regarding funding and institutional
viability.

Dr. Josephine English, founder and chairperson of the PRT board, Barry Sheppard, President of PRT,
Brooklyn Style Foundation and Jojo7 Entertainment have teamed up along with other theater and arts
professionals in the community to organize some new initiatives for the revitalization and reopening of
the main theater.
